The College of Communication and Information cultivates students' understanding of the legal and ethical obligations surrounding information access and free expression within democratic systems. The College also supports professional development by equipping students for careers in communication and information fields. It comprises four academic units: the Tombras School of Advertising and Public Relations, School of Communication Studies, School of Information Sciences, and School of Journalism and Electronic Media. Students can choose from five undergraduate majors: advertising, communication studies, information sciences, journalism and electronic media, and public relations. An honors program is available through the School of Communication Studies. All eligible programs maintain full accreditation. The advertising, journalism and electronic media, and public relations programs hold accreditation from the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. Additionally, the information sciences master's program is accredited by both the American Library Association and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.
