The Bachelor of Music is the undergraduate professional qualification in musical studies. It primarily focuses on cultivating the abilities, understanding, and artistic awareness crucial for a musician's professional career. Whether as a performer, composer, researcher, or instructor, a professional musician must demonstrate not just technical proficiency but also extensive familiarity with musical repertoire, stylistic nuance, and an appreciation of music's significance in human culture. The Music Education curriculum trains future educators to teach both instrumental and vocal music from kindergarten through high school. This program aligns with the National Standards for Arts Education in Music and meets the certification criteria set by the Tennessee Department of Education. Every undergraduate Music Education program leads to a Bachelor's degree in music along with a Tennessee K-12 music teaching certification. These programs feature a complete academic year of internship (often recognized as one year of teaching experience in many states) and twenty-four graduate-level credit hours that can be transferred toward a Master of Music degree in music education.
