The honors program in German requires a minimum of 32 credit hours in courses numbered above 200. This includes at least 12 honors credits in 300-level or higher courses, specifically GERM 477 (with a B grade or higher), GERM 498, and WLC 495. Students can enroll in honors-by-contract German courses to meet the 12-hour honors requirement for the German major's honors track. Additionally, participation in a study abroad program in a German-speaking country is mandatory for honors students.
Admission to the honors program requires maintaining a 3.5 GPA in German major courses and a minimum 3.25 overall GPA. Applications should be submitted by the end of the junior year, with forms obtainable from the department office. Note that study abroad grades don't factor into the GPA calculation, and the department may evaluate the suitability of international coursework for honors credit, potentially requiring additional 400-level courses for degree completion.
