With Russia currently playing a pivotal role in international geopolitics - instigating Europe's most significant conflict since WWII, endangering worldwide food supplies, and supporting authoritarian governments globally - Americans must develop a nuanced comprehension of Russian heritage and society. This knowledge becomes crucial for establishing lasting stability when future opportunities emerge. Students pursuing Russian studies serve as key ambassadors in promoting this understanding across Tennessee and the United States.
UT's Russian studies curriculum develops proficiency in language while exploring the nation's complex history and diverse cultural traditions. To apply for admission as an undergraduate student, each international student is required to provide the following:
A completed application for undergraduate admission.
Complete one required essay chosen from one of seven prompts.
Optional: Submit recommendation letters (academic, professional, or personal) and a Personal Statement.

For students attending secondary school outside the US, our admissions team will need official copies of your transcript, diploma, or certificate prior to enrollment.
Request your secondary school or counselor to send your official transcripts. Transcripts, certificates, or diplomas must come directly from the issuing school or issuing ministry or body. Official transcripts are certified copies sent directly from the authorized school official.
