The UT Department of Political Science delivers an extensive educational and research program covering all fundamental aspects of the field, including Public Administration, American Government, Comparative Politics, International Relations, Political Theory, and Empirical Methods. Our undergraduate curriculum offers a well-rounded political education with adaptable pathways for careers in government, law, business, and teaching. Graduate programs provide specialized training for academic or public service careers. We emphasize foundational knowledge in political institutions, theories, and processes, equipping students with analytical skills for policy evaluation and research. Faculty research and instruction share a common focus on democratic development, sustainability, and contemporary policy challenges facing democratic systems. This policy-oriented approach is strengthened through interdisciplinary collaborations across campus. Undergraduate options include a standard Political Science BA and a Public Administration concentration. High-achieving undergraduates may pursue our honors program, requiring original thesis research. Universal Tracking (uTrack) helps students maintain timely graduation progress by outlining semester-specific requirements like course completion and GPA benchmarks. These tracking measures apply exclusively to full-time degree candidates.
