The Global Studies program explores worldwide interconnections. The Global Politics and Economy track emphasizes social sciences, requiring more classes in this area than humanities. Globalization—the cross-border flow of capital, goods, people, ideas, technologies, and cultural practices—represents both a defining feature of modern society and the result of extensive historical transformations. While globalization often appears driven by economic and political forces surpassing traditional national boundaries, it has also sparked new forms of local and international activism and opposition. At the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, our global studies program equips students to analyze worldwide transformations, enabling our academic community to interpret local events through a global lens. By uniting professors and students from varied backgrounds, we foster interdisciplinary insights into how shifting national borders, worldwide trends, and evolving identities both divide and unite societies.
