Geographers examine human societies and their surroundings worldwide and across different eras. They combine broad and localized viewpoints to tackle contemporary issues. Our researchers investigate diverse topics, from climatic shifts spanning millennia to urban poverty trends and the internet's impact on our perception of communities. This holistic worldview makes geography and sustainability degrees particularly valuable: our alumni contribute to Boston Marathon security operations, create population maps for emergency preparedness, and serve as data analysts for leading tech firms. The Geography Department offers an extensive curriculum covering the field's core branches - human geography, physical geography, and geospatial analysis. Our courses enable students to examine connections between societal behaviors and ecological systems. Geography students gain factual understanding, sharpen critical analysis, and enhance problem-solving abilities. Geographic education teaches students to identify locations, understand spatial patterns, recognize regional variations, comprehend human-environment relationships, and evaluate these complex interactions.
