The Geography program is offered through the Department of Anthropology and Geography. Students gain comprehensive training in geographic perspectives through both academic studies and practical internships. This program focuses on examining human-environment dynamics during periods of significant worldwide transformation. By analyzing complex connections among spatial dimensions, locations, human societies, and both constructed and natural landscapes, learners develop skills to understand geographical characteristics, distributions, and systems.
The Geography program places particular emphasis on alpine environments and the interplay between people and their surroundings. Courses leverage faculty specialization in these research domains, some uniquely relevant to Colorado's landscape. Professors employ diverse investigative techniques, such as GIS technology, satellite imagery analysis, spatial pattern simulations, statistical mapping, community-based approaches, and cultural studies to tackle real-world research challenges across Colorado, the Rocky Mountains, Patagonia, Southeast Asia, Latin America, Melanesia, and Africa.
