The master's program in history consists of 30-33 credit hours, available as either a thesis or non-thesis track. Learners can specialize in diverse aspects of American and European history. A history master's degree opens numerous professional pathways. Whether pursuing roles as historians or policy experts, USD's program equips students to undertake advanced research initiatives and refine their writing abilities to propel their careers forward. Earning potential also increases with a graduate degree. Our alumni are well-prepared to pursue doctoral studies or enter the historical profession as independent researchers, emerging museum specialists, or experienced secondary school instructors. Being a terminal degree program, every graduate student benefits from the undivided focus of our history faculty.
Students with Baccalaureate degree must be from an institution with full regional accreditation for that degree. A minimum undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 on conferred degree and/or graduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better, based on a 4.0 scale, on all graduate coursework is required for full admission.
English Language Requirements:
A minimum score of 79 on the Internet-Based TOEFL (iBT) or 550 on the Paper-Based TOEFL (PBT), a minimum IELTS score of 6.0, or a minimum PTE score of 53 is required for graduate admission.
