A German degree opens doors to diverse career paths after college. Mastering German language and cultural understanding provides an edge in arts, sciences, technology, and commerce. Numerous alumni have continued their professional or academic journeys across Europe.
At USD's German program, you'll study a crucial language for global trade and economics. German serves as a portal to profound Western traditions and stands as the EU's most widely spoken tongue. This language also connects Americans to their roots—with German ancestry representing the largest ethnic group in the nation (1 in 7 Americans). Situated in America's Heartland, the University of South Dakota lies at the center of German-American culture. USD students enjoy proximity to numerous communities with strong German heritage, including Mennonite settlements where German remains the dominant language.
