Capability to recognize, define, and address challenging engineering issues through the application of engineering, scientific, and mathematical concepts. Skill in utilizing engineering design to develop solutions addressing specific requirements while accounting for public safety, health, and broader considerations including global, cultural, societal, environmental, and economic impacts. Proficiency in communicating clearly with diverse audiences. Capacity to understand ethical and professional obligations in engineering scenarios and reach well-reasoned decisions that account for the worldwide, economic, ecological, and social implications of engineering outcomes. Competence in collaborating effectively within teams to provide direction, foster cooperation, set objectives, organize work, and achieve goals. Aptitude for designing and performing suitable experiments, evaluating and understanding data, and applying engineering expertise to reach valid conclusions. International freshman applicants must be high school graduates (students that have the equivalent of a diploma in the United States).
English proficiency is measured through the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). A score of at least 550 on the paper based exam or 77 on the internet based TOEFL is required. USC also accepts the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or the PTE Academic Test. Students must score at least a 6.5 on the IELTS, or at least a 53 on the PTE.
