The Biomedical Sciences concentration at USCB equips students for diverse technical and professional pathways in biomedical research or advanced academic programs. Graduates are well-prepared for graduate studies, professional degrees (such as medicine, dentistry, and veterinary medicine), or careers as research assistants and laboratory managers, among other roles. Students acquire practical skills in molecular, cellular, biochemical, and developmental biology, along with related biotechnologies. Our Capstone courses cover areas from Biological Research to Biochemistry, offering chances to conduct supervised research in genomics, bioinformatics, and developmental genetics. Faculty members employ techniques like environmental PCR for bacterial source typing, CRISPR-cas9 for targeted DNA mutations, and x-ray crystallography to develop compounds that disrupt parasitic biochemical pathways, including those involved in Chagas disease and leishmaniasis.
