The Bachelor of Arts in Geography program examines how human and societal factors influence our relationship with the environment. This degree path suits students aiming for careers in urban development, environmental conservation, cultural studies, social justice, or related social science disciplines.
Unlike the B.S. in geography, the B.A. allows for greater flexibility to explore humanities and social science electives while maintaining core coursework in geographical technologies and earth sciences.
The curriculum develops abilities to assess both natural landscapes and societal structures, process and analyze information, apply mapping tools and statistical methods, and present research clearly. These geographic competencies provide valuable, transferable skills for careers in education, industry, public service, and community organizations.
International freshman applicants must be high school graduates (students that have the equivalent of a diploma in the United States).
English proficiency is measured through the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). A score of at least 550 on the paper based exam or 77 on the internet based TOEFL is required. USC also accepts the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or the PTE Academic Test. Students must score at least a 6.5 on the IELTS, or at least a 53 on the PTE.
