The Bachelor of Arts in English with Secondary English Language Arts (ELA) Certification equips students for teaching careers and secondary education certification. This 123-credit program spans four years, aiming to develop skilled, competent, and professional secondary English Language Arts educators. Graduates will: exhibit expertise in ELA content areas including literature and multimedia texts while understanding adolescent reading development, master language and writing components of ELA while comprehending adolescent language development, create instructional plans and assessments for literature studies to support all learners, design teaching strategies and evaluations for composing various text types (oral, written, visual) to benefit all students, develop, execute, evaluate, and reflect on evidence-based teaching methods that boost engagement, foster lasting ELA learning, and address diverse student needs, understand how social justice principles, diversity research, equity studies, student identity theories, and school systems can improve ELA learning opportunities, demonstrate professional interaction skills with students, families, and colleagues based on social contexts and institutional responsibilities, participate in leadership or collaborative roles within ELA professional networks, and continuously grow as education professionals.
