The Bachelor of Science in Geology program immerses students in exploring Earth's physical, chemical, and biological characteristics across various spatial and temporal dimensions. Geology majors engage with a wide array of scientific disciplines, incorporating fundamentals from chemistry, physics, and biology. South's geology department stands out for seamlessly blending academic instruction with student research initiatives. With intentionally limited class sizes, South's geology program ensures personalized faculty mentorship. Geology students gain practical experience through numerous field excursions and research projects in geologically rich locations like Alabama, Texas, and New Mexico. The curriculum capitalizes on the university's coastal location near the Gulf of Mexico, providing access to exceptional modern depositional settings such as Dauphin Island, the Mobile-Tensaw Delta, and Mobile Bay. Many geology professors actively research these regions and welcome undergraduate participation in their projects.
