The chemistry program is structured to serve both students pursuing a broad liberal arts education and those needing specialized technical training. Coursework establishes essential foundations for future chemists and biochemists, whether entering the workforce immediately after graduation or continuing to graduate studies in chemistry, biochemistry, allied sciences, or professional fields. Chemistry majors can choose between two primary academic paths:
The American Chemical Society-approved Chemistry degree prepares students for technical chemistry roles or advanced graduate studies, while
The Biochemistry Option caters to students fascinated by the intersection of chemistry with biomedical and biological sciences, particularly those aiming for graduate programs in medical sciences, biochemistry, biophysics, or related life science fields.
Chemistry degree candidates must complete a minor in another subject area. All incoming freshmen are required to pass CAS 100 as part of their degree, enrolling in their first semester at USA (with summer entrants registering the following fall term).
Applicants must have completed a secondary schools with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5. English Proficiency Requirement: Minimum IELTS: 5.5, Minimum TOEFL: 61, Minimum Pearson Academic: 44, Minimum iTEP: 3.6, Minimum Duolingo: 95.
Application Deadlines: Fall - 15th June, Spring - 1st November, Summer - 1st March.
