The Glass Program at the University of South Alabama offers students a unique educational experience, standing as the sole program of its kind in Alabama and the only public university option in the Southeast. This cutting-edge program provides access to advanced facilities, featuring a modern hot studio for glassblowing and a cold studio dedicated to kiln work, thermo-forming techniques like fusing, and sculptural glass casting. Students master cold working methods such as grinding, polishing, lathe operations, engraving, and sandblasting. The curriculum fosters innovative, cross-disciplinary approaches through diverse glass techniques, incorporating imagery and text via painting, printing, drawing, and photography. Both art majors and students from other fields collaborate in this vibrant glassmaking environment, working with molten glass from dual 500-pound furnaces while practicing techniques rooted in ancient traditions dating back millennia.
