Today's successful school counselors must be adaptable professionals equipped to handle the diverse social-emotional, academic, career, and developmental requirements of an ever-changing student body. Our CACREP-accredited programs train future leaders in school counseling to promote healthy growth and drive meaningful change, benefiting both individual students and entire educational systems. Across most U.S. states, including New York which offers two certification levels (Initial and Professional), public K-12 schools mandate state certification for counseling positions. Students can complete their required practicum and dual internships in elementary, middle, or high schools based on preference, with unique placement options available at the University of Rochester's EPO-managed East High School.
The Internship Certificate enables graduate students to work as compensated school counselors while earning their master's degree, provided they meet both NYSED and Warner School qualifications.
