Today's effective school counselors must be adaptable professionals equipped to handle the diverse social-emotional, academic, career, and developmental requirements of an ever-changing student body. Our CACREP-accredited programs train future leaders in school counseling to promote healthy development and drive positive change, benefiting both individual students and entire educational systems. Across most U.S. states, including New York which offers two certification levels (Initial and Professional), public K-12 schools mandate state certification for counseling positions. Students can complete their required practicum and dual internships at elementary, middle, or high schools based on preference, with unique opportunities available at Rochester's East High School under the University's EPO program.
The Internship Certificate enables graduate students to earn while they learn, working as school counselors during their master's studies, provided they meet NYSED and Warner School qualifications.
This program emphasizes developing comprehensive support systems for students and families through an integrated care approach.
