Pharmacology and physiology are fundamental scientific fields that bridge our knowledge of human biology with therapeutic interventions. At the University of Rochester, our Pharmacology and Physiology programs emphasize advancing drug mechanism research and discovering novel physiological targets for disease treatment. The 55-credit Master's programs in Pharmacology or Physiology equip students with essential skills to:
Conduct research in academic or industrial environments, Pursue diverse science-oriented careers (such as regulatory affairs, scientific communication, or education), or Excel in professional (MD, DVM) or research-focused (PhD) advanced degree programs.

The University provides two pathways for earning a Master of Science in Physiology. Plan A involves completing a thesis project within a faculty research laboratory, while Plan B requires a master's essay supervised by a faculty advisor. Both options maintain identical rigorous coursework requirements.
The Master of Science in Physiology degree requires successful completion of at least 30 credit hours of academic work

Qualification Requirements

Applicants must have earned a U.S. baccalaureate degree or its equivalent from a college, university, or technical school of acceptable standing. Students in their final year of undergraduate study may be admitted on the condition that their bachelor's degrees are awarded before they matriculate. Evidence of the earned degree is required prior to matriculation in the form of an official transcript noting degree conferral.

The following programs require a writing sample: Epidemiology and Health Services Research and Policy. Otherwise, research papers, publications and other original works, as well as resumes and CVs may also be submitted for consideration, but are not required.
