The Arthur Satz Department of Music and the Music Teaching and Learning Department at Eastman School of Music provide an accelerated pathway for select undergraduates to begin pursuing a Master of Arts in Music Education. This combined program typically spans 5.5 to 6 years. Upon completion, graduates earn both their master's degree and initial certification for teaching music in New York State public schools. Prospective students should meet with their academic advisor during their freshman year to plan their customized course sequence. Applications for the MA program are submitted in the second semester of junior year. For more information, contact the Music Teaching and Learning Department at Eastman School: (585) 274-1540.
BA Prerequisites: Fulfill all core requirements in music theory, history, musicianship, keyboard proficiency, and performance (including private lessons and ensemble participation) within one of the BA music concentrations. Admission to the MA program requires an audition/interview at ESM.
