The Department of History provides undergraduate programs culminating in either a standard BA or an honors BA degree, along with a history minor option. Most history courses welcome non-majors, many of whom discover a passion for historical studies while focusing on other disciplines. Additionally, the department has designed 15 thematic clusters for non-majors to satisfy social science requirements, featuring both regional focuses (like U.S. History) and subject-based collections (such as Conflict and Social Change).
A history degree proves beneficial not just for aspiring historians but also for careers in diverse fields including:
Legal professions, Corporate sectors, Cultural institutions, Government roles, Analytical positions, Media careers, Political arenas, Education, Heritage preservation, Information services, Organizational leadership, Marketing, and Human services.
Through the Honors Program, history majors can undertake substantial independent research projects. This initiative serves as either a culminating academic experience, an opportunity to deepen prior seminar topics, or preparation for graduate studies. Completing this rigorous program represents a proud milestone for participants, though it demands significant commitment. Tailored for students eager to produce original 35-45 page theses, the program involves year-long refinement during senior year with dedicated faculty mentorship guiding the research journey.
