Our program provides a major, minor, and multiple concentration options in American Sign Language (ASL) within the humanities division. Students gain preparation for diverse careers including teaching, healthcare, legal fields, Deaf education, ASL interpretation, academic research, counseling, program management, and social services.
The curriculum delivers a comprehensive four-year liberal arts education, featuring courses in ASL language studies, Deaf community literature and culture, signed/spoken language linguistics and psycholinguistics, and instructional ASL applications. French Sign Language courses are also available.
Faculty collaborate extensively with the University of Rochester's Center for Language Sciences, Brain and Cognitive Sciences Department, and Linguistics Department to conduct cross-disciplinary research initiatives.
