The URI Ocean Engineering Bachelor of Science program stands among the few accredited offerings in the United States. This nationally acclaimed curriculum excels in ocean instrumentation and robotics, underwater acoustics, marine hydrodynamics and tsunami studies, coastal modeling, marine geomechanics, coastal and offshore structures, and offshore energy production.

Students combine demanding foundational coursework with hands-on laboratory and field training that leverages our coastal setting and resources. Situated at URI's Narragansett Bay Campus, our facilities include a 30-meter wave tank, acoustics testing tank, electronics laboratory, machine shop, 3D printing capabilities, laser cutting equipment, and numerous other resources. The program additionally utilizes a fully equipped 42-foot research vessel for both instructional laboratories and scientific investigations.

All international applicants whose first language is not English must provide proof of English language proficiency English language proficiency may be demonstrated by one of the following - TOEFL iBT - minimum score of 79. IELTS - minimum score of 6.5. Cambridge English Advanced - 176-184. Pearson Test of English minimum score of 53. Eiken Test of English completion of level Pre1. Applicants who have attended a secondary school or post-secondary school where the language of instruction is English may be exempt from submitting an English proficiency examination depending upon their English grades AP IB O level A-level GCSE American Curriculum and their SAT and or ACT scores if submitted Such exemptions are determined on a case-by-case basis.
