The URI Bachelor of Science in Ocean Engineering stands among the few accredited programs of its kind in the United States. This nationally acclaimed curriculum leads in areas such as ocean instrumentation and robotics, underwater acoustics, marine hydrodynamics and tsunami research, coastal modeling, marine geomechanics, coastal and offshore structures, and offshore energy production.
Students combine demanding foundational coursework with hands-on laboratory and field activities, taking full advantage of our coastal setting and resources. Situated at URI's Narragansett Bay Campus, our facilities include a 30-meter wave tank, an acoustics testing tank, electronics and machine shops, 3D printing capabilities, laser cutting equipment, and numerous other resources. Additionally, the department utilizes a fully equipped 42-foot research vessel for both instructional laboratories and scientific investigations.
