URI's Africana Studies program immerses you in the vibrant traditions and contemporary realities of African and African American communities through social, cultural, political, and historical lenses. This multidisciplinary curriculum bridges the arts, humanities, and social sciences while providing exceptional summer study opportunities in Ghana and Cape Verde.

By integrating perspectives from various academic disciplines, Africana Studies presents diverse coursework examining the heritage, creative expressions, governance systems, and economic realities of African diaspora populations. Qualification Requirements

All international applicants whose first language is not English must provide proof of English language proficiency English language proficiency may be demonstrated by one of the following -
TOEFL iBT - minimum score of 79.
IELTS - minimum score of 6.5.
Cambridge English Advanced - 176-184.
Pearson Test of English minimum score of 53.
Eiken Test of English completion of level Pre1.
Applicants who have attended a secondary school or post-secondary school where the language of instruction is English may be exempt from submitting an English proficiency examination depending upon their English grades AP IB O level A-level GCSE American Curriculum and their SAT and or ACT scores if submitted Such exemptions are determined on a case-by-case basis.
