The Department provides Master of Science programs in Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Engineering, along with a Doctor of Philosophy degree. Students pursuing chemical engineering can focus on various specialized areas including transport phenomena, reaction kinetics and catalysis, reactor design, process control, thermodynamics and phase behavior, solids handling, petroleum reservoir engineering, bioengineering, polymer science, multiphase systems, surface science, as well as coal and environmental engineering processes.

LETTERS OF REFERENCE: Applicants must have their reference letters submitted electronically as part of the on-line admissions application process TRANSCRIPTS: Applicants are required to upload academic records from each academic institution (undergraduate and/or graduate) attended. It is the policy of the University of Pittsburgh to admit only those students with a TOEFL score of at least 550 (paper-based test), 213(computer-based test) or 80 (internet-based). It is the policy of the University of Pittsburgh to admit only those students with an IELTS score of at least 6.5.
GRE SCORES: GRE scores are required and are useful in combination with all the other materials submitted. For applications to the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, the competitive score range for the GRE quantitative section is between 151-166 and 4.5 - 5.5 for the analytical section. The minimum grade point average for admission to any graduate study at the University of Pittsburgh is 3.0
