The Master of Science in Translational Research (MSTR) program aims to equip students with comprehensive training in essential skills, methodologies, and foundational principles to develop competent translational investigators. This goal is achieved through: structured coursework, a dedicated mentorship initiative, hands-on laboratory experience, professional skill-building activities, and personalized support in crafting protocols and grant applications. Participants will undertake an independent research project guided by their primary mentor, who will also assist in formulating a viable thesis question. The culminating thesis integrates translational research concepts while offering initial practice in drafting a thorough NIH-style grant proposal.
Applicant must have MD, PhD, MSN, VMD, or DMD level degree.
A strong command of the English language is necessary for successful study at Penn. Applicants whose families do not speak English at home, or applicants who have not attended a high school or secondary school where the primary language of instruction is English, are asked to take the TOEFL, the Test of English as a Foreign Language, administered by the Educational Testing Service. In the event the TOEFL is not readily accessible, Penn will accept results from the IELTS, the International English Language Testing System.
