The International Educational Development Program (IEDP) equips students with specialized expertise, insights, and competencies in global education development, particularly for low- and middle-income nations. This interdisciplinary field demands robust foundations, addressing not just education but also the intersection of political, economic, and cultural factors. Students explore critical areas including: early childhood learning human rights frameworks language education policies teaching methodologies migration studies non-profit administration public health initiatives educator training programs instructional design educational technology applications Through IEDP's intensive global internship component, participants translate theoretical knowledge into practical solutions, engaging in fieldwork with leading institutions like UNESCO, UNICEF, the Aga Khan Foundation, the Research Triangle Institute, and similar development organizations.
Admission to Penn GSE requires satisfactory completion of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited U.S. university or its equivalent prior to your matriculation into any program.
A strong command of the English language is necessary for successful study at Penn. Applicants whose families do not speak English at home, or applicants who have not attended a high school or secondary school where the primary language of instruction is English, are asked to take the TOEFL, the Test of English as a Foreign Language, administered by the Educational Testing Service. In the event the TOEFL is not readily accessible, Penn will accept results from the IELTS, the International English Language Testing System.
