Aspiring entrepreneurs and intrepreneurs seeking to master product design and collaborate across fields to tackle the world's most fascinating, complex, and significant challenges by creating exceptional products. The M:IPD equips students from engineering, design, or business disciplines with specialized knowledge in human-centered design methodologies, building upon their current abilities while cultivating new ones. Structured to establish a strong foundation in product design principles while offering flexibility for students to customize their educational journey according to personal objectives. M:IPD candidates participate in both interdisciplinary courses tailored for the program and specialized courses delivering advanced instruction in business, design arts, or engineering.
Candidates should have a background in one of the three areas: business, design arts, or engineering.
A strong command of the English language is necessary for successful study at Penn. Applicants whose families do not speak English at home, or applicants who have not attended a high school or secondary school where the primary language of instruction is English, are asked to take the TOEFL, the Test of English as a Foreign Language, administered by the Educational Testing Service. In the event the TOEFL is not readily accessible, Penn will accept results from the IELTS, the International English Language Testing System.
