The two-year MFA program at UPenn's Stuart Weitzman School of Design cultivates professional growth for emerging artists. Combining studio practice, seminar discussions, global residency options, and engagement with established artists, the curriculum offers a flexible intellectual environment that nurtures critical thinking and autonomous artistic inquiry. Participants expand their conceptual approaches while developing and perfecting unique, interdisciplinary art-making techniques. The program promotes experimentation, allowing students to broaden their education through cross-disciplinary courses across the Weitzman School and wider university community, with diverse elective choices and optional certificate or dual-degree pathways.
Applicants must have completion of bachelor’s degree.
A strong command of the English language is necessary for successful study at Penn. Applicants whose families do not speak English at home, or applicants who have not attended a high school or secondary school where the primary language of instruction is English, are asked to take the TOEFL, the Test of English as a Foreign Language, administered by the Educational Testing Service. In the event the TOEFL is not readily accessible, Penn will accept results from the IELTS, the International English Language Testing System.
