The Department of Religious Studies at the University of Pennsylvania fosters public awareness of religion and examines the formation of public spaces in contemporary times. Penn's Graduate Group in Religious Studies unites diverse specializations, spanning not only regional studies and historical faith traditions but also methodological perspectives. These include critical examinations of the concept of religion itself, studies of material and visual culture, analysis of both ancient texts and modern media, and investigations into religion's intersection with modern scientific thought, political systems, gender dynamics, and racial issues.
