Computational linguistics combines linguistic studies with computer science, utilizing AI and machine learning techniques to address language-related challenges. The Linguistics Ph.D. program at Penn encompasses diverse theoretical approaches and research methods, all united by a focus on rigorous formal analysis of human language acquisition and usage. While rooted in generative linguistics, our program fosters intellectual exchange between empirical observations and theoretical frameworks.
