Acknowledging the necessity to foster an environment for comprehensive training in immunobiology's diverse facets, Penn pioneered the creation of an independent PhD program in Immunology. The Immunology Graduate Group (IGG) faculty are recruited from various departments within the University of Pennsylvania and its Health System, representing wide-ranging research focuses. Additionally, the IGG has formed a collaborative alliance with the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. This collaboration grants IGG access to the NIH's exceptional resources and scientific knowledge, being one of the globe's most prestigious biomedical research institutions. Students can engage with NIH faculty through multiple avenues, such as performing laboratory rotations or completing thesis research at the NIH.
Applicant must have good undergraduate training in biology.
A strong command of the English language is necessary for successful study at Penn. Applicants whose families do not speak English at home, or applicants who have not attended a high school or secondary school where the primary language of instruction is English, are asked to take the TOEFL, the Test of English as a Foreign Language, administered by the Educational Testing Service. In the event the TOEFL is not readily accessible, Penn will accept results from the IELTS, the International English Language Testing System.
