Penn boasts remarkable interdisciplinary connections in visual media, especially printmaking and its cinematic counterparts. Julie Davis specializes in Japanese woodblock prints from the past 250 years, while Karen Redrobe explores film through courses examining both animation and live-action cinema as forms of public media. Davis also participates actively in Penn's vibrant History of the Book initiative, hosting weekly interdisciplinary workshops at the Kislak Rare Book Center within the Penn Library. This center, housing medieval manuscripts alongside other treasures, serves as an invaluable resource for scholars across historical periods and geographic areas. Additionally, Penn faculty have collaborated with the PMA, Ross Gallery, and Penn Library to organize numerous print exhibitions, including Davis's recent curatorial seminar on contemporary Japanese landscape prints and Andr Dombrowski's exhibition focusing on media from the Dreyfus era.
