The health care management and policy concentration centers on overseeing, funding, and analyzing the economics of the health care industry. Participants explore health care market dynamics and key elements that shape decision-making processes across policy frameworks and organizational structures. This sector encompasses government bodies, nonprofit entities, large private enterprises, medical practices, and emerging health care service providers. Health care organizations typically fall into three main categories: Care Providers (such as hospitals and medical professionals), Financial Payers (including government programs and insurers), and Product Suppliers (like pharmaceutical companies and medical technology firms). The field also involves specialized service providers in consulting, financial services, and investment sectors. The program equips students with comprehensive knowledge of interactions between payers, providers, and suppliers.

A strong command of the English language is necessary for successful study at Penn. Applicants whose families do not speak English at home, or applicants who have not attended a high school or secondary school where the primary language of instruction is English, are asked to take the TOEFL, the Test of English as a Foreign Language, administered by the Educational Testing Service. In the event the TOEFL is not readily accessible, Penn will accept results from the IELTS, the International English Language Testing System.
