Psychology studies offer insights into modern perspectives on how living beings perceive, learn, reason, and engage with each other, their developmental processes, motivational drivers, and comparative analysis across individuals and species. At Penn, psychology encompasses a broad spectrum, from neuroscience to mental health disorders. This field scientifically examines mental processes, exploring how we interpret information, emotionally and intellectually respond to it, acquire knowledge, and how our cognition evolves. Given its extensive scope and methodological approaches, psychology intersects with numerous other fields and interdisciplinary pursuits. It serves equally well as a primary focus for liberal arts education or as a supplementary discipline. Psychology cultivates critical thinking and analytical abilities essential for intellectual growth while providing a foundation for diverse professional paths.
International applicant should have completed a program of secondary education that would enable you to enter a university in your own country (e.g., A-levels, Abitur).
A strong command of the English language is necessary for successful study at Penn. Applicants whose families do not speak English at home, or applicants who have not attended a high school or secondary school where the primary language of instruction is English, are asked to take the TOEFL, the Test of English as a Foreign Language, administered by the Educational Testing Service. In the event the TOEFL is not readily accessible, Penn will accept results from the IELTS, the International English Language Testing System.
