The Undergraduate Fine Arts Program blends hands-on studio work, seminar classes, and engagement with visiting artists to create an expansive learning environment that cultivates critical thinking and self-directed artistic exploration. The Fine Arts Department provides comprehensive studio instruction across multiple disciplines including animation, 3D modeling, ceramics, design, drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and video. Through seminar-style learning, students deeply explore modern art practices, innovative research, interactive design, and public art concepts. A key objective of the program is to create a space where artistic possibilities intersect with students' lived experiences. By challenging themselves with diverse artistic methods and their historical contexts, students build sophisticated abilities to thoughtfully navigate the rapidly changing global landscape of human expression.
International applicant should have completed a program of secondary education that would enable you to enter a university in your own country (e.g., A-levels, Abitur).
A strong command of the English language is necessary for successful study at Penn. Applicants whose families do not speak English at home, or applicants who have not attended a high school or secondary school where the primary language of instruction is English, are asked to take the TOEFL, the Test of English as a Foreign Language, administered by the Educational Testing Service. In the event the TOEFL is not readily accessible, Penn will accept results from the IELTS, the International English Language Testing System.
