The Music Education program offers a rigorous, performance-focused curriculum designed to help you earn both a degree and California teaching certification in just four years. You'll cultivate teaching abilities through practical, hands-on experiences in diverse musical learning environments. Technique courses, conducting practice, integrated fieldwork, and other methods will enhance your musical expertise, self-assurance, and outlook.
An interview with faculty is mandatory for this program. These interviews occur either during your live audition day or via phone if submitting a video audition.
Instruct students in K-12 music programs for approximately 45 hours each semester across multiple terms.
Lead elementary music classes solo for a full semester (with faculty guidance and assistance).
Shadow and support veteran music educators in real classroom settings.
Develop skills in instrumental, choral, and general music instruction while exploring technology integration, diverse musical genres, and multicultural traditions.
Practice sight-reading, rehearsing, and performing alongside visiting school ensembles on campus.
