The Modern Languages and Literature department provides major and minor programs in Spanish, French, Chinese, and Japanese, along with German language courses. Approximately 60-70% of our students pursue dual majors. With intimate class sizes, you'll build close connections with peers and instructors while immersing yourself in the target language. Our faculty members bring extensive expertise and global experience to the classroom. Acquiring a new language unlocks access to diverse cultures, viewpoints, and possibilities. It strengthens cross-cultural communication skills and fosters global citizenship. In our interconnected world, language proficiency is essential for both personal growth and career success. The French program features introductory multimedia language courses, intermediate cultural studies, advanced composition, literature surveys, specialized topics in Francophone arts and film, and interdisciplinary offerings like French Cinema History. Instruction occurs entirely in French unless noted otherwise.
