The Economics Department provides first-year sequences in microeconomic theory, macroeconomic theory, and econometrics, with qualifying exams (micro and macro) administered during summer. Students focus on their selected specialization areas during their second year or early third year. Degree requirements include a field-specific research paper in the third year and a dissertation, usually finished by the fourth or fifth year.
Earning a PhD in economics equips graduates for academic positions at liberal arts and research institutions, careers in government and international agencies, as well as research and consulting roles in private sector organizations. Our program features a favorable student-to-faculty ratio, fostering strong research and teaching capabilities while supporting efficient degree completion.
