Students enrolled in the indigenous, race, and ethnic studies program gain tools to promote social equity globally. Our department examines how race intersects with various factors like gender, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, immigration, indigenous rights, and colonial legacies. Together with our students, we analyze and challenge manifestations of white supremacy throughout history and in contemporary society. Our scope extends beyond U.S. racial dynamics to include global migration patterns and diasporic communities shaped by the transatlantic slave trade, colonial expansion, and worldwide economic integration.
Graduates of the IRES program enter diverse fields including advocacy groups, tribal governance, corporate leadership, public welfare, teaching, and office administration. Common career paths for our alumni include: human services aides, career advisors, office coordinators, HR professionals, school administrators, and social welfare specialists.
