The Dance Department provides programs for earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (BS), or a dance teaching certificate, along with options for non-degree students. Our mission is to deliver well-rounded dance education while aligning with the university's liberal arts foundation.
Dance education cultivates mental, creative, and physical growth. The department prioritizes all three developmental aspects, supported by diverse course offerings and faculty specialization. Beyond classroom learning, students engage in the demanding professional standards intrinsic to studio practice. The curriculum covers multiple dance styles, including African dance and drumming, ballet, contact improvisation, contemporary, jazz, hip-hop, modern, partnering, and salsa.
No matter a student's professional aspirations, studying dance at the University of Oregon fosters self-motivation, discipline, intellectual exploration, and artistic vision. These qualities are vital for both career achievement and personal enrichment.
