The Dance Department provides programs that lead to a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (BS), or a teaching certification in dance, along with options for students outside the major. The department aims to deliver thorough dance education while aligning with the university's liberal arts approach.
Dance education fosters intellectual, creative, and physical growth. The department prioritizes all three aspects, supported by a wide-ranging curriculum and faculty specialization. Beyond academics, dance majors engage in the demanding professional training intrinsic to studio courses. The program covers various dance styles, including African dance and drumming, ballet, contact improvisation, contemporary, jazz, hip-hop, modern, partnering, and salsa.
No matter a student's professional aspirations, studying dance at the University of Oregon helps cultivate drive, discipline, curiosity, and creativity. These qualities are vital not just for career success but also for a meaningful life.
