The Master of Science programs in geology and geophysics are designed mainly for students pursuing careers in petroleum, mineral industries, environmental and hydrogeological sectors, as well as government roles. This degree level has long been preferred for professional practice. Both geology and geophysics M.S. degrees require 26 graduate credit hours plus four thesis credits. These programs aim to equip students for geological or geophysical careers by: (1) offering comprehensive earth science education with related engineering coursework, and (2) fostering analytical problem-solving skills through independent thesis research.
