The program aims to: (1) develop skills in solving complex Earth Science challenges through field and lab observations; (2) achieve in-depth understanding of Earth Science principles and their practical use across specialized areas; and (3) equip students for professional careers or doctoral studies in Earth Sciences or related fields. Welcome to our Earth Sciences Department. Established in 2002 within the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Memphis' main campus, our department boasts 14 dedicated faculty members spanning Archaeology, Geography, and Geology. We foster personalized excellence through teamwork and cross-disciplinary Earth Science education and research. Both faculty and students enjoy the freedom to explore creative academic and research paths that might face constraints in conventional departments. The department collaborates closely with campus institutions including CERI, CAESER, Chucalissa Museum, and CIUM. Our Archaeology faculty share academic interests with other Archaeology programs at the University of Memphis.
