The Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Linguistics provides graduate programs culminating in Master of Arts degrees for French, German, and Spanish studies, along with Doctor of Philosophy options for French or Spanish. Students can explore comprehensive seminars and advanced coursework covering all principal areas and historical periods within French, German, Spanish, and Spanish-American literature. Both thesis and non-thesis tracks are available for MA candidates in French, German, and Spanish. The non-thesis option requires completing 32 graduate-level credit hours (33 for Spanish) and passing a concluding comprehensive exam.

Qualification Requirements

To be considered for admission to the MA program in German a student must:

Hold a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in German, or equivalent hours in the major.
Have a 3.0 grade point average in the last 60 hours of undergraduate course work.
Have taken one college-level course in European history.


Scoring 6.5 or higher on the IELTS, Scoring 79 or higher on the Internet-based TOEFL (iBT)
