The OU School of Music's mission is to foster academic growth, innovative instruction, research, and community engagement. Both faculty and students will champion educational excellence, expand musical knowledge through performance and scholarship, and strengthen the field via professional contributions worldwide. Founded in 1903 as OU's second academic school, it has held National Association of Schools of Music accreditation since 1931. As Oklahoma's sole doctoral music program, the institution supports its community through the creative and intellectual achievements of its members. OU grants music degrees across disciplines including composition, pedagogy, music history, performance, and theory. While honoring its heritage, the School develops forward-thinking curricula to equip students for a dynamic, multicultural world.
