The School of Music provides educational programs for aspiring music professionals, along with classes for university students interested in exploring music as enthusiasts or active participants. Emphasizing innovation and scholarly inquiry, the school fosters students' creative abilities through performance, composition, and studies in history, analysis, and teaching methods. Its distinguished faculty comprises nationally recognized artists and scholars specializing in performance, composition, music education, history, and theory. Students benefit from diverse musical and intellectual experiences through recitals, concerts, lectures, visiting artists, opera productions, and seminars. The School of Music occupies three facilities: the Stanley B. Catlett, Sr. Music Center, Donald W. Reynolds Performing Arts Center, and Carpenter Hall. The Catlett Music Center features administrative offices, faculty workspaces, practice rooms, classrooms, MIDI laboratories, the Grant Fine Arts Library, a recording studio, and three performance venues—the Paul F. Sharp Concert Hall, Morris R. Pitman Recital Hall, and Grayce B. Kerr Gothic Hall. The Donald W. Reynolds Performing Arts Center contains faculty offices and the renovated Holmberg Auditorium, home to the OU Opera Theater. Carpenter Hall currently accommodates studios for voice and piano faculty members.
