Program Learning Outcomes
Demonstrate performance proficiency across various historical styles relevant to one's specialization, showcasing musical expression through evaluated performances, public recitals, and other presentation formats. Essential competencies include: technical ability, musicality, tone quality, diction/articulation, stylistic interpretation, sight-reading, rhythmic precision, and artistic expression.
Develop piano proficiency appropriate to one's concentration.
Demonstrate creative ability in composing original works or arranging existing music.
Grasp fundamental musical concepts including form, structure, and organizational principles.
Acquire comprehensive knowledge of music history and repertoire, including significant composers and works within one's specialization, while also exploring musical traditions beyond one's primary cultural focus.
Students will analyze musical works from all eras through both aural and written examination. Performance abilities are formally assessed during the second year and, for certain degree tracks, through a culminating recital. Some concentrations may mandate successful completion of teaching practicums, internships, or capstone projects.
